A far cry from the minimal, Warp-influenced electronica of her earliest efforts, Ellen Allien's 2008 release, SOOL, builds upon the tuneful electro pop experiments of 2005's THRILLS and proves to be one of Allien's most accessible, song-oriented outings. Though tunes like "Sprung" hearken back to the metronome steady pulse of classic acid house, SOOL's most compelling tunes utilize a broader array of seemingly organic instrumental textures, like the chiming celestes of standout track "Frieda".
