The first band signed to Broken Social Scene's Arts and Crafts label that shares no members with that collective, the Most Serene Republic returns with their second album over three years after their 2004 debut, UNDERWATER CINEMATOGRAPHER. In keeping with their name, this Canadian band maintains a sense of tranquility and calm with a blend of jazzy post-rock ("A Mix of Sun and Cloud") and more urgent indie pop ("Sherry and Her Butterfly Net"). Horns and violin color the imaginative arrangements underneath the strong vocals of singers Adrian Jewitt and Emma Ditchburn.
