Whether he was playing acoustic or electric guitar, or was featured alone or with a band behind him, John Lee Hooker was always simply John Lee Hooker, delivering a raw version of country blues gone urban with a kind of rustic power that he returned to constantly throughout his long career (he often returned to the same songs as well).
