German electronica artist Barbara Morgenstern has collaborated with fellow experimentalists like To Rococo Rot and Thomas Fehlmann. Her 2006 album THE GRASS IS ALWAYS GREENER, which was partly inspired by her international travels, animates its cold electronic heart with a collection of simply orchestrated songs, mostly sung in German, that transcend their binary origins. "The Operator," sung in English, is a speed-of-life pop confection, while "Mailand" is a beautifully layered low-key synthesizer study, and "Alles Was Lebt Bewegt Sich" is about as close to life-affirming as electro-pop gets.
