As one of Memphis's most well-known local musicians, Jack Oblivian has played in countless garage punk bands over the years, most notably the Oblivians and the Compulsive Gamblers. On his third solo album as Jack-O & the Tennessee Tearjerkers, Oblivian (né Yarber) plays up many of the more roots- oriented touches found on the Gamblers' albums. Though there are plenty of rough-and-tumble guitar jams here, Oblivian allows for plenty of twang and even heads deep into the swamp for the accordion-driven "Blood Blank Blues." It's a testement to Oblivian's ability as a songwriter that DISCO OUTLAW doesn't settle for simple, snotty punk, though that would be a-okay too.
