Utah's Iceburn Collective came out of the Revelation Records hardcore scene to blow minds with their genre-challenging jazz-fusion style. After several albums of increasingly sophisticated experiments, they released 1998's meditative THE POWER OF THE LION. Now long divorced from their heavy roots, the band focuses on hypnotic compositions--"Power of the Lion No. 3" has a twisting guitar lead that recalls prog-rock giants like King Crimson, and "Power of the Lion No. 7" is a menacing slow burn at 16 minutes, all lumbering bass and cold fingers of guitar. The vinyl reissue comes on two LPs, courtesy of Southern Lord Records.
