Per La Sete Dell'orecchio

The Italian avant-garde composer experienced a rediscovery in the late '90s after more than two decades of relative obscurity. His astonishing work has been re-pressed by specialists Alga Marghen, and his revived original label Cramps, who were responsible for uncovering the Italian avant-garde music scene in the 70s. This release from 1984 originally appeared as an LP on Vandalia, and is reissued here with an additional track, humorously titled "Song for John Cage." Humor is high in all of his avant-garde compositions, which include largely conceptual and political works that align Walter Marchetti with the Fluxus conceptual art movement. "Da Nulla e Verso Nulla," composed for marimba, maracas, and magnetic tape, is an engaging and lengthy minimal composition, while "Per la Sete Dell'orecchio is a deep cavernous meditation made from environmental recordings and water sounds. Overall, the recording is a masterful and resonating piece of work which reflects a stark beauty within its abrasive sound. ~ Sylvie Harrison
