Personnel: Joe Higgs, Earl "Wire" Lindo, Val Douglas, Mikey, Eric Gale, Mike Chung.
Often regarded as a mere footnote in the history of reggae, Joe Higgs is best remembered for his behind-the-scenes role in the career of music legend Bob Marley. A vocal arranger for many early Wailers hits, as well as a songwriter for acts such as Toots and the Maytals, Higgs never scored similar success as a solo artist, but continued to record until his death in 1999. LIFE OF CONTRADICTION, a solo effort from 1976, is an overlooked yet seminal roots reggae chestnut. Brimming with captivating performances from top Jamaican session musicians, as well as heartfelt songwriting from Higgs himself, it's a welcome reissue of an underappreciated classic.
