Cloud One [LP]

The New York post-punk art rock group never quite received the recognition of their peers Sonic Youth and the Swans, yet in the '80s produced a string of excellent albums that deal in hypnotic guitar meshing and propulsive rhythms that recall largely the instrumental sound of British groups Joy Division, Felt, and A.C. Temple. Their notoriously loud live performances struggle to translate on this album, yet the dark psychedlia of the first side is a compelling listen nonetheless. ~ Martin Walters
