Tommy Guerrero was a professional skateboarder in the late '80s. With the Bones Brigade skaters behind him, Guerrero has picked up the guitar full time. This second release landed in the laps of downtempo electronic label Mo' Wax (home to DJ Shadow et al), and with good reason.
An all-instrumental album, A LITTLE BIT OF SOMETHIN' features the stock beats and push button cymbal of a bargain-basement keyboard sampler, overlaid by Latin-tinged guitar. Slow, deliberate basslines also make an appearance as do keyboard and piano melodies and live drum tracks. Interesting vocal samples also keep it real. Highlights include the slight hip-hop vibe of the handclap-accentuated "Flux and Meter," and the bubbly electronics of "As the Sea Holds Creatures Vast and True."
