Hall & Oates, once synonymous with trendsetting, radio-friendly eighties pop music, join forces again after years of mostly solo experimentation. The result is an exciting comeback album of pure pop which is occasionally reminiscent of the duo's best early-eighties hits, but which also incorporates new sounds. Check out the exotic, Indian-influenced percussion on "Marigold Sky," Dave Stewart's Eurythmic-style wailing guitar on "Romeo is Bleeding" and "Love Out Loud," and the hints of hip-hop rhythms scattered throughout. This is Hall & Oates nineties style, turning their smooth, soul-flavored harmonies in a more contemporary direction. The lyrics of "Time Won't Pass Me By" seem especially appropriate: "I think the sun was in my eyes/This time the time won't pass me by/Lucky on the second try/This time the time won't pass me by."
