Originally recorded in 1969 but not released until 2007, GRIMWOOD--like its predecessor MICROMINIATURE LOVE--is an unhinged classic and the kind of record for which the phrase "way ahead of its time" was coined. At the time of its recording, Michael Yonkers had been involved in a terrible work accident that left him with a degenerated spinal cord. In seeming response to the exhausting recovery, GRIMWOOD tones down the cone-shredding volume of MICROMINIATURE LOVE in favor of a gentler, acoustic approach. With not one iota of weirdness comprised, GRIMWOOD is the freakiest folk record ever made hands down, and puts all the early 21st-century genre followers firmly in their respective places.
