Golden Tracks

There are no liner notes here, so it's impossible to say for sure when this stuff was recorded; from the sound of it--which resembles nothing less than Al Stewart backed by vintage ELO--it could be anytime between the late 1970s and the dawn of the new millennium. In any case, stylistically it bears very little relation to Donovan's seminal '60s hits; it's basically catchy, occasionally soulful bubblegum pop, with the notable exception of a remake of "Season of the Witch" that rocks a little harder than the original. There's also an interesting, sitar-laden version of "Sunshine Superman" that adds rainy day sound effects to nice ironic effect.
