Electric Day

Berlin electronic group YOU were basically the duo of Udo Hanten and Albin Meskes, who fused the hypnotic trance of mid-`70s Tangerine Dream with a standard rock lineup (electric guitar and drums) playing patterns almost as precise as the synthesizers. For their debut album, 1979's Electric Day, YOU sound much like their main influence, although additional member Uli Weber's guitar solos make the record a much more interesting proposition than it would've been normally. Drummer Harald Grosskopf, like Weber only a part of YOU for this debut album, also makes a lively contribution. The entire affair sounds like nothing more or less than Steve Hillage's guitar let loose over some prototypical Edgar Froese grooves. ~ John Bush
