Norway's Gluecifer eschews both atmosphere folk and furious black metal, but instead stakes its claim with raw, rhythm-driven rock 'n' roll. What prevents TENDER IS THE SAVAGE from being an overheated glam retread, however, is its sense of punk danger, kindred in spirit to fellow '90s gutter rats like D Generation. Vocalist Biff Malibu dominates this tidy 10-song collection with a bravado that swings between sinister Robert Plant seduction and Brian Johnson gut-cleansing. In its finest moments (i.e., the chorus of "Rip-Off Strasse"), SAVAGE evokes FAIR WARNING-era Van Halen by marrying a bit of sexy melody with engine-revving attitude.
