Vini Reilly and the Durutti Column had been releasing intriguing albums of experimental post-punk and post-rock for a good 15 years before 1995's SEX AND DEATH was released. As usual, Reilly's guitar work is at the center of the album--all intriguing angles and enchanting atmospherics--but there are new stylistic elements too, including world music and hip-hop influences. But the focus is still on Reilly's excellent songwriting and playing, news that will come as a relief to longtime Durutti Column fans. Highlights include "The Rest of My Life," "For Colette," and "Fado."
