The veteran drummer is no stranger to rootsy grooves: Purdie has played with everyone from James Brown to Aretha Franklin, and his deep pocket and tasty backbeats haven't lost any of their luster. There's nothing too fancy here, except for the brilliantly executed musicianship--just superb, funk-inflected soul music that satisfies like a plate of barbecue, greens, and cornbread.
