Built in Sun

Built in Sun is the debut LP from drummer Joe Plummer (the Shins, Modest Mouse, Cold War Kids), at least under his own name, with vocals by Pall Jenkins (the Blackheart Procession, Three Mile Pilot). Music-maker Richard Swift lent a hand on mixing and bass. Conceived originally as an instrumental work, minimalist lyrics and dissonant piano tones exude an experimental tone on the rhythmically driven "Due to Rain," while "V" offers sweet harmonies riding dreamy guitar sunbeams through a lo-fi universe. Citing influences including John Cale, the Wipers, and Jon Brion, the album came to fruition during Plummer's break between recording and touring for the Shins' Port of Morrow and Cold War Kids' Hold My Home, and was released via People in a Position to Know and Joyful Noise Recordings in August of 2015. ~ Marcy Donelson
