The debut full-length by singer-songwriter David Vandervelde, WAITING FOR THE SUNRISE sounds specifically influenced by the likes of Jackson Browne, Crosby Stills Nash and Young, the Eagles, Fleetwood Mac and other stars of 1970s California rock, put into a modern indie-rock context. The soft rock gloss of the opening "I Will Be Fine," the haunting, harmony-driven "Someone Like You," and the McCartney-like falsetto pop of "Cryin' Like the Rain" reveal Vandervelde as a gifted songwriter and a clever, accomplished arranger.
