Pyramids

PYRAMIDS is the sophomore album from Chicago trio Pit Er Pat. Reflecting Chicago's jazz and post-rock traditions, the band creates modernist torch songs with echoes of the cool vocal jazz of the 1960s, as well as the dub-influenced productions of contemporary electronica. Coaxing delicate details from the trio's bass, organ, and drum exchanges, producer John McEntire creates an evocative, often mysterious world through his use of sound textures and effects. Heightening the strange, dark atmosphere is the gossamer croon of vocalist Fay Davis-Jeffers. Suggesting sinister lullabies through an almost childlike tone, her voice floats ominously over the swinging polyrhythms of the trio's modern-day pop jazz.
