One of the many side projects led by British punk poet Billy Childish, the Chatham Singers use traditional American folk and blues templates to present Childish's unique viewpoint. On their second album, JU JU CLAUDIUS, the group--which also includes Childish's wife, Julie--dips into everything from swamp blues riffs to campfire stomps, all with a raw, garagey, lo-fi feel. When these old-school settings collide with Childish's quirky lyrical approach, the end results are not quite like anything you've heard before.
