Although former Arab Strap frontman Aidan Moffat has issued albums under his L. Pierre guise, 2009's HOW TO GET TO HEAVEN FROM SCOTLAND, co-credited to his Best-Ofs ensemble, is the U.K. performer's first full-length album under his own name, not counting the largely spoken-word outing I CAN HEAR YOUR HEART. Highlights of this fine indie-pop release include the chiming "Big Blonde," the spare "Atheist's Lament," and "A Scenic Route to the Isle of Ewe," an atmospheric love song. In addition to the eclectic arrangements, HEAVEN benefits from Moffat's ever-biting lyrics and charming Scottish brogue, keeping it in the same vein as his work in Arab Strap.
