Recorded while supporting 1998's LOW ESTATE, this 16 Horsepower live document features the American Gothic-inspired alt-country band on its Denver, Colorado, home turf. Brooding frontman David Eugene Edwards leads his acolytes through a powerful, guitar-heavy set that includes ominous originals (the urgent "Black Soul Choir" and the spare "Brimstone Rock") and potent, inventive cover tunes (a searing take on Creedence Clearwater Revival's "Bad Moon Risin'" and a lumbering version of Joy Division's "Day of the Lords"). Many of HOARSE's tracks outshine their studio counterparts, revealing the full range of the ensemble's talent, and making this concert disc a must-have for 16 Horsepower fans.
