Fajar di Atas Awan

Saurasama is a sprawling and elusive musical collective led by the Indonesian ethnomusicologist Rithaony Hutajulu, a talented multi-instrumentalist who has spent the majority of his life studying East Asian folk music. Saurasama's long-form improvisations successfully evoke both Indonesian folk forms and the rowdier, electric sounds of contemporary East Asian pop. The startlingly eclectic FATAS DI ATAS AWAN was originally recorded in the late '90s but is only now seeing a domestic release, thanks to the ever-vigilant musical tastemakers over at Drag City Records.
