Breakup Song

Breakup Song may be Deerhoof's eleventh album, but it's their first to deal with the ups and downs of relationships this straightforwardly. Of course, in this band's hands, even subjects as well-covered as breakups and makeups are handled in ways that are far from conventional: Breakup Song is full of jarring textures, nursery rhyme melodies, and lyrical non-sequiturs that, in their own way, convey love's heartbreak and hope vividly. Whether it's "The Trouble with Candyhands"' mambo-rock or the dreamy reverie of "Fete d'Adieu," there's never a dull moment here.
