plux-quba
Plux Quba
All tracks have been digitally remastered.
Portuguese experimentalist Nuno Canavarro works with twinkles and microbes of sounds, erecting scratchy, insectoid dub of superfine quality from minimalist fragments. Using tapes, melodica, and the barest of processed electronic sounds, Canavarro creates a febrile ghost-scape of scrapes, twisted tones, and weird little things going bump in the slight.
PLUX QUBA is easily on par with some of electronica's modern dub noiseniks (Vladislav Delay, Kit Clayton, Taylor Deupree) and should find a space on the same shelf as Canavarro's contemporaries. But this record was made in 1988, long before the concepts of "microscopic sound" and "glitch music" were even motes in a journalist's eye. Canavarro was a true visionary, as his one sole document attests. No wonder Jim O'Rourke saw it necessary to re-release PLUX QUBA on his Moikai imprint. This is stellar stuff for those enamored with Mouse on Mars and any of the aforementioned folks, as well as for anyone interested in a little-known piece of the historical Portuguese electronica pie.
